In Chinese Diet Therapy, the philosophy of yin and yang is used in food and cooking. Yang foods increase the body’s heat, such as raising the metabolism, while Yin foods decrease the body’s heat, such as lowering the metabolism. Other factors must be considered, such as the weather, seasons and body’s balance of yin/yang. For example, in “hot” summer months, it is better to balance your body with “cool” foods, such as fruit.
